Doctors' Strike: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Agrees to 'Recorded' Meeting With Protesters Today, Invites Representatives of All Medical Colleges

After junior doctors strike in NRS Hospital became a national wide stir, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday will be meeting two representatives from each Medical College of the state at Nabanna.

New Delhi, June 17: After junior doctors strike in NRS Hospital became a national wide stir, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday will be meeting two representatives from each Medical College of the state at Nabanna. The meeting will take place at 3 pm today. This development comes after, the Indian Medical Association (IMA)-called nationwide strike in solidarity with the protesting doctors.

"The discussion will focus on all your demands. I also confirm that the discussion and resolutions taken in this meeting shall be recorded and duly communicated to you," read the letter addressed to 'protesting doctors'. West Bengal Government's  Letter to Protesting Doctors:

The protesting doctors have demanded to hold an open door meeting with Banerjee in the present of "live media". "We are sad that the patients are suffering due to this ongoing impasse and want this dispute to be resolved immediately. We do not want a closed-door meeting with the CM. We want the conversion to be held in the presence of live media and sufficient representatives from all medical colleges," a representative of the striking doctors of the NRS Medical College and Hospital said.  Doctors' Strike Extends Across India From West Bengal; Check List Of Medical Services Available And Shut

Meanwhile, the strike entered its seventh day on Monday. The doctors said that they need media presence in the meeting for the sake of the glassiness to the common citizen as they are the "biggest sufferers" in this strike. The Bengal government, earlier, cited legality and constitutional obligations against holding an open door meeting.

The strike by IMA has been intensified with AIIMS Delhi joining the stir. The All India Institute of Medical Studies had earlier decided to only agitate without halting any services but later changed the stance after one of its doctors was abused last night by a relative of a patient.

Doctors, medical staff in West Bengal are on a strike since June 11 after a junior doctor was reportedly attacked and seriously injured by relatives of a patient who died. To show solidarity, medical practitioners across the nation chose not to work.
