Mumbai, September 24: Ahead of the festival of Eid-e-Milad or Mawlid as it is known, clerics in Mumbai called DJ music, dance and firecrackers at Eid-e-Milad processions as "haram" or forbidden. They even asked Muslims not to use DJ music and firecrackers when they celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. This year, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad will be celebrated on September 28. However, it will be celebrated with processions on September 29.

The Eid-e-Milad processions will be taken out on September 29 in order to avoid any clash, with the last day of Ganpati Visarjan being September 28 in the city, reports Times of India. He also said DJ music, dancing and bursting crackers are "haram" or forbidden. He made the statement while speaking at an event at Islam Gymkhana in Marine Lines held by the 'Prophet for All' campaign. Maulana Shakir Noorie, president of Sunni Dawat-e-Islami, also stressed the need to "desist from committing sin or creating nuisance" on the Prophet's birthday.

Arif Naseem Khan, a former minister who heads the biggest Eid-e-Milad procession in the suburbs, said that he had requested participants not to play DJ music. "It is a waste of money and time (to use DJ music or dance) as they only create nuisance and bring no blessings to the community. It must stop," he added.
