New Delhi, December 21: Delhi woke up to its coldest December morning in four years on Thursday as the minimum temperature dropped to 4 degrees Celsius. The temperature was four degrees below normal. According to weather reports, temperatures have dropped across North India as a cold wave gripped the region. In some parts of Punjab and Rajasthan, the temperature dropped below 2 degrees Celsius.
There were sub-zero temperatures in the hills. In Srinagar, the minimum temperature recorded was -7 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dropped to -4 degrees Celsius in Shimla. In the plains, the coldest were areas in Northern Rajasthan, where the mercury dropped to 0.5 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department has said that temperature is going to further fall over the next fortnight and that the national capital must be ready for even colder winter nights going into the next year. The next two nights, said the Met department, are going to be as colder as Thursday in Delhi.
