Dharwad, March 21: The death toll in the deadly building collapse at Dharwad in Karnataka mounted to 11 on Thursday as rescuers recovered more bodies from the debris. Till now, more than 60 people have been rescued so far. According to reports, around 10-15 people are still missing. The IAF (Indian Air Force) on Wednesday airlifted two teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad to Hubli in Karnataka.
The tragic incident befell in Kumareshwar Nagar area at the under-construction site. So far, no arrest has been made yet. "We have registered a case. Arrests will also follow but our focus at present is on the rescue operations," a police official said. He added rescue operations have been intensified to rescue those still trapped in the debris. The rescue operations were intensified after the arrival of three NDRF teams of 11 personnel along with specialised types of equipment like life detectors, breathing apparatus. Eight Fire and Emergency Services officials were also flown from Bengaluru to help with operations. Around 150 police officials are also at the incident spot. Most of the trapped were labourers who were engaged in laying tiles.
