Bhopal, April 8: The Indian Army on Monday received the first batch of Dhanush artillery guns in Jabalpur, also called desi 'Bofors'. According to the reports, these Indian made guns are expected to be deployed at the international borders with China and Pakistan.
Let's Look at the Basic Features of India's desi 'Bofors':
- Similar to Bofors used in the 1999 Kargil War, this indigenous artillery has a 155x45mm calibre gun. Indian Army To Get First Batch of K-9 VAJRA-T Artillery Guns Next Week
- The 155mmx45 CAl FH Gun 'Dhanush' is a new generation towed artillery gun with major upgraded features over the existing 155mmx39 Cal FH 77B02 gun.
- This is the first long-range piece of artillery to be produced in India, which has a maximum effective range of 38 km. Dhanush has an onboard computer and electronic suite which enable real-time targeting of moving and static targets.
- With the new technology, the indigenisation level of the gun will go upto 91 per cent, which is currently 81 per cent.
- With the bulk production clearance of manufacturing 114 such guns, the Ordnance Factory Board has handed over 6 Dhanush guns to the issuance to Indian Army.
- The Dhanush hiatus induction in the Indian Army has given a boost to the artillery section, with K—9 Vajra, a tracked self—propelled South Korean howitzer, and the M—777 ultra—light howitzers earlier acquired from the US.
- Apart from the Dhanush, the other indigenous effort is Advance Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and manufactured by Tata and Bharat Forge.
