Gurugram, January 20: In a tragic incident, a final-year student of the postgraduate management programme at the Management Development Institute (MDI) in Gurugram committed suicide after allegedly suffering from depression. Reports inform that the student, identified as Junaid Taj, jumped from the seventh-floor balcony of his college hostel on Saturday. According to a report by TOI, Junaid is a resident of Vasant Vihar in Delhi and had joined MDI in 2017 for the three-year programme. Inspector Vinod, the SHO of Sector 18 police station was quoted in the TOI report saying that Junaid jumped around 7 am and was found in a pool of blood by security guards of the college. According to reports, Junaid’s last upload on social media was on December 13 where he was seen smiling in the picture.
Following the tragic incident, the family was informed about the suicide. Junaid’s mother was quoted in the report saying that her son sent messages to some of his friends about his depression. According to details by Police, the victim was suffering from depression for a long time. However, the reason for the same is still not clear. After the college authorities alerted the police about the incident, Junaid's body was sent to the mortuary and was then handed over to the family members. Reports inform that Junaid’s mother had informed police about his depression and hence, did not press for any investigation into the matter. Junaid’s mother, in a statement to police, said she was informed about her son’s suicide by his college friends.
