Dense Fog Engulfs North India, 21 Trains in Northern Region Running Late Due to Low Visibility

New Delhi, January 2: North India continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions accompanied by dense fog in several areas. As many as 21 trains are running late due to low visibility in the Northern Railway region. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperatures have increased by 3-4 degree Celsius over most parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and at several places over Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, west Madhya Pradesh during past 24 hours.
In its weather bulletin, IMD said in Delhi, the temperature docked at 7.8 degree Celsius in Delhi's Palam area, a temperature of 5.8 degree Celsius was recorded in Safdarjung area at 5.30 am. People took refuge at a night shelter near Safdarjung Airport as the minimum temperature dropped to 2.4 degree Celsius in Safdarjung area on January 1. On Thursday, dense fog engulfed northern parts of the country with the Safdarjung area in Delhi recording a minimum temperature 2.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The Delhi-NCR witnessed disruption in traffic movement as visibility dropped drastically low. Due to bad weather, flight and railway operations were affected too. According to Skymet Weather, some isolated light rains are expected over Delhi-NCR on Thursday.

According to the IMD, the cold day conditions would continue for another 24 hours but are expected to abate thereafter. Moreover, the national capital and its surrounding areas will see bright sunshine in coming days, bringing huge relief for the capital which has been bearing the brunt of extreme cold weather for the last 18 consecutive days.
