Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi, Flight Operations Put on Hold Due to Low Visibility, Nearly 27 Trains Delayed

Train services were also hit in the national capital as 27 trains running late due to dense fog. Meanwhile, air quality in Delhi continued to remain in 'poor' category.

New Delhi, February 4: Delhiites woke up to a cold morning on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 7.1 degrees Celsius, the season's average. Dense fog continued to envelop several parts of the national capital, leading to disruption in flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. According to ANI, several flights were put on hold at the runway due to severe fog. Train services were also hit in the national capital due to low visibility. Nearly 27 trains were reported to be running late. According to a weather office, the visibility dropped to 400 meters and the air quality recorded under 'severe' category.  The weather office has predicted haze and smoke for the day. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality of the national capital was recorded in 'severe' category as the air quality index being at 449.

Delhi has been reeling under a cold wave for the past a few months now. On December 23, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius. On 26th December 2018, Delhi had recorded the minimum temperature of 3.6 degree Celsius, four notches below the season's average, the Met office said.
