Denied Free ‘Chicken’, Neighbours Kill Five Hens in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior

Gwalior, July 1: In a bizarre incident, two men on Sunday allegedly poisoned four chickens and one rooster belonging to a woman in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district after she refused to give a free chicken to the accused. According to a report in India Today, Guddi Bai said that she earns her living through daily labour and to support her family she started a small poultry farm in the area to sell their eggs and earn money. In her complaint, she said that both the accused had come to her residence and asked her daughter for a free chicken when she was out for work. As Guddi Bai's daughter refused to give them Chicken, they argued with her and wrung the neck of a rooster and poisoned other four birds. When Guddi Bai came home, she found chickens dead and filed a complaint, reported India Today.

Sub-inspector of Jhansi Road police station, Rajeev, confirmed that a case has been filed and an investigation is launched into the matter. The duo has been booked under IPC section 429 (dealing with the mischievous killing or maiming of animals). As per the law, if any animal priced over Rs 50 is killed, handicapped or poisoned then the accused can face jail up to five years or a fine. However, the accused can also compromise with the animal owner.
