New Delhi, August 23: Delhiites will be able to swipe their Metro cards to pay for bus rides starting August 24, Friday. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Monday that passengers travelling on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses can use their Metro cards for payments from Friday.

Gahlot held a high-level meeting with Managing Director (MD) of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Mangu Singh, DTC MD Manoj Kumar, DIMTS MD M Rajshekhar and transport department officials on Monday. According to a Hindustan Times report, the launch of the service was finalised in the meeting.

The launch of the service has been delayed twice as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had set an April 1 deadline for the same. The deadline was then moved to end of April after which it was delayed yet again.

Electronic ticketing devices for 1,650 cluster and 3,965 Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses have been equipped with secured access module chips for swapping of smart cards of passengers, according to a PTI report.
