Delhi Winters: City Records Season’s Lowest Temperature at 2.6 Degree Celsius

The Met Department informed that the temperature in Delhi on Saturday was four notches below the season's average and is believed to be the season's lowest temperature so far. On December 25, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal.

New Delhi, December 29: There was no respite from cold wave conditions in north India with dense fog partially stalling flight and train operations in Delhi. The national capital woke up to a chilly morning on Saturday as mercury dipped to 2.6 degrees Celsius. The Met Department informed that the temperature on Saturday was four notches below the season's average and is believed to be the season's lowest temperature so far. On December 25, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal. Fog Engulfs Delhi, 15 Trains Running Late Due to Low Visibility. 

An India Meteorological Department (IMD) official was quoted by IANS saying that the maximum temperature is expected to be around 19 degrees Celsius.  The visibility on Saturday morning was 1,500 metres in most parts of the city while in Palam area was 800 meters. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality in the national capital was found in 'very poor' category. Cold wave conditions intensified across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand with the minimum temperatures plummeting on Saturday. On Friday, the maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 18.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius. The hilly regions of India have already been battling freezing point temperatures.
