New Delhi, December 30: Delhi is likely to record the coldest day on Monday in last 119 years for the month of December as day temperature till 2:30 PM today has been unusually following the coldest trend with Safdarjung at 2:30 pm has 9.4 degree Celsius. To make things worse, the fog has covered the entire national capital throwing road, rail and air traffic out of gear. As many as 500 flights have been delayed and over 20 flights have been diverted due to dense fog and low visibility. The Northern Railway also informed that 30 trains are running late due to extreme weather conditions. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung observatory was 2.6 degrees Celsius (6 degrees lower than average). The climate was a bit colder at two other places in Delhi. Lodhi Road shivered at 2.2 degrees Celsius, while at Ayanagar it was 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Since last week, the northern part of India is reeling under severe cold wave condition. Parts of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Rajasthan saw a dip in mercury levels.
