Delhi Weather on May 1: Thunderstorm, Dust Storm Likely in the National Capital

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday has forecast thunderstorm and dust storm in the national capital giving relief to Delhiites from the sweltering heat.

New Delhi, May 1: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday has forecast thunderstorm and dust storm in the national capital giving relief to Delhiites from the sweltering heat. According to IMD forecast, there is a possibility of partly clouded skies with thunderstorm and dust storm in the afternoon and evening with gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/hr. The Summer has kicked up in the national capital. On Tuesday, a maximum temperature was recorded at 43.7 degrees, the highest temperature for the season so far. "The city recorded a maximum of 43.7 degrees Celsius, which is the highest for the season so far, and a low of 23 degrees Celsius. The humidity level oscillated between 21 and 60 per cent," a MeT official said.

Citing the rising temperature in Lucknow, the District Magistrate on Sunday gave directions to government and private schools to reduce their closing timings. As per the notice, from April 30 onwards, classes till 10th Standard will be conducted from 7:30 to 12 pm while classes of 11th and 12th standard will be till 1 pm.

The IMD has also released a set of suggestions to beat the heat which includes wearing light-coloured, loose cotton clothes, avoiding heat exposure by covering the head with a cloth, hat or umbrella to avoid harmful heat waves.
