New Delhi, June 1: Delhi has been reeling under severe heatwave conditions since the last few days. According to a weather bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), any relief from the scorching heat is unlikely in the national capital in the next four-five days as the temperature is all set to touch 46 degrees."Thunderstorm activity to continue for next 3-5 days over northeastern states & over extreme southern peninsula. In Delhi, we are not expecting rain, as per our forecast the maximum temperature here can be as high as 46 degrees. On Saturday, the minimum temperature touched 27.6 degrees Celsius in the Delhi-NCR region. In the wake of the current weather conditions,  the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the highest "red" alert for some parts of northern India including the national capital.

Adding further, the IMD said that monsoon is expected to arrive near Kerala around June 6. At present the monsoon activity has covered some extreme southern part of Arabian Sea and parts of southwest-southeast-east central Bay of Bengal, Andaman sea&Andaman Nicobar islands. It said , in the next 2-3 days it'll cover more parts of Arabian Sea. Delhi Heatwave: National Capital Reels Under Severe Heat.

On Friday, Delhi sweltered under severe heatwave conditions with the mercury rising to the season's high of 44.8 degrees Celsius. The city recorded a low of 28.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the humidity levels oscillated between 20 and 59 per cent. According to reports, the weather  stations at Ayanagar and Palam recorded the mercury at 46 and 46.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to IMD's regional weather forecasting chief Kuldeep Srivastav, from June 2, the maximum temperature may drop by one or two notches due to wind activity. According to forecast by private weather agency Skymet  Weather, the maximum temperature touched the 47-degree mark in the diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri.
