New Delhi, October 13: A Delhi University student and her juvenile brother have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping their landlord's 3-year-old son and asking for a ransom of Rs 5 crore. The incident took place in Delhi's Ghitorni near Vasant Kunj area on Thursday morning. The sister-brother duo initially demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore, but later reduced it to Rs 50 lakh after negotiations, say reports. Class 1 Student in Delhi Kidnapped From School Bus, Driver Shot Dead.
After being arrested, the duo confessed that they carried out the kidnapping because they hated the child's grandfather, who apparently scolded them for trivial issues. The kidnappers had tied the minor's limbs, gagged him and locked him for nearly 20 hours, before the child was rescued by Vasant Kunj Police on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, the accused had been planning the kidnapping since August and had rented a home near their apartment in Ghitorni to keep the minor hostage. To avoid being detected, the duo used to ask for ransom by sending WhatsApp messages.
The mastermind of the plan was a DU student who wanted to become rich overnight and targeted the landlord because they were aware that they are financially stable. During investigations, police interrogated the girl who later confessed to the crime and also led police to the flat where the child was kept. The police have arrested the sister-brother duo under the relevant charges of Kidnapping.
