Srinagar, August 6: The Jammu police on Sunday arrested a terrorist who had eight grenades in possession, the police said on Monday. The arrest comes just days ahead of the Independence day and the police claims to have foiled a major terror attack bid in the capital, Delhi. According to intelligence sources, terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed has been planning an attack in New Delhi on the occasion of Independence day.

The arrested terrorist has been identified as Arfan Wani, and is a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. Eight live hand grenades and Rs 60,000 in cash were recovered from his possession, an officer was quoted saying by news agency PTI.

On Sunday, there were media reports that Jaish Chief Masood Azhar's brother named Abdul Rauf Ashgar's ex-bodyguard, Ebrahim Ismail alias Lambu is reported to have received training and is behind the planning of attack on 15 August in Delhi.

Reports also say that Jaish has sent two of their commandos in Kashmir valley so as to prepare for the attack. The other terrorist who has crossed over along with Ebrahim Ismail or Lambu is Masood Azhar's elder brother's son named Umar.

On July 19, there were reports of Pakistan-based jihadist group Jaish-e-Muhammed, reportedly training its cadres in deep sea diving with the aim to target "strategic assets" of the Indian Navy.

A Srinagar-based terror operative, apprehended in June this year by the Indian forces, has revealed the plot being hatched across the border by anti-India terror forces - Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen - to boost insurgency in Kashmir.
