New Delhi, June 10: Temperature in the national capital continues to soar, with the city recording 48 degree celsius on Monday, as per the IMD weather station at Palam. Skymet Weather, the private forecast agency, has claimed that the temperature recorded today in Delhi is the highest-ever in the city's history. No relief from the scorching conditions is in sight as the Southwest Monsoon is predicted to arrive late in North India. According to IMD, the rainfall laden winds will hit New Delhi on June 29-30. However, private weather agencies are expecting the onset of Monsoon at least a week later.
Meanwhile, MeT department has issued an alert in north Indian states. The IMD on Monday issued a red alert in West Rajasthan, orange alert in West Madhya Pradesh and yellow alert in various parts of the country including in East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh.
A red alert calls for taking an action, orange alert calls for staying prepared while the yellow alert is for staying updated.Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal at many places on Sunday. The temperature was reported 5.1 degree celsius above than the normal temperature at many places over East Rajasthan on Sunday.
"Maximum temperatures are likely to remain above normal by 2-3 degree celsius over some parts of the south peninsula during next two days. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over rest of the country during next 2 days and they are likely to fall gradually by 2-3 degree celsius thereafter", said the statement issued by the IMD.
