New Delhi, June 23: In a shocking incident from New Delhi, two newborn babies were killed by their family members. According to reports, the victims were twin girls. After murdering the infants, the family buried them, police said. The family was reportedly "unhappy" with the birth of girls, leading them to commit the act of female infanticide.

According to a report in Newsnine, Delhi Police, acting on a complaint, exhumed the bodies on judicial orders and filed an FIR. Raids are being conducted to apprehend the accused, according to sources. The mother, originally from Rohtak, Haryana, married into a family from outer Delhi's Pooth Kalan in 2022. Despite refusing a sex determination test during her pregnancy, she gave birth to twin girls. Suspicious, the woman and her family contacted the police. With judicial authorisation, the police exhumed the bodies, conducted autopsies, and initiated legal action based on the medical findings.

It is important to note that section 315 of the Indian Penal Code defines infanticide as the killing of an infant in the 0-1 year age group, a cognizable and non-bailable offence punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or both.
