New Delhi, August 28: In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old teacher was beaten to death in Delhi after a tiff with two hawkers over the price of a pair of headphones. Reports inform that the incident took place in north Delhi’s Kotwali area on Monday. However, the family members of the victim alleged that the man was thrashed by a group of people. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the victim, identified as Mohammad Ovais, was a madrasa teacher and a resident of Shamli in Uttar Pradesh. Police have arrested the two men and efforts to identify the rest are currently underway. According to the report, the control room alerted the Kotwali police station about a man lying unconscious near the exit gate of Old Delhi Railway Station at 10pm on Monday. Additional deputy commissioner of police (north) Harendra Singh was quoted in the HT report that a police team from Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and took the man to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. As per preliminary enquiry, Ovais had a scuffle with Lallan and his aide, Ayub which may have led to his death. Police informed that eyewitnesses and locals said Ovais was buying a pair of headphones from one of the hawkers and while negotiating the price they had a heated argument over the price. After the argument, the two hawkers thrashed Ovais, following which he collapsed and fell unconscious. The two suspects have been arrested and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the two men under IPC section 304.
