Delhi Shocker: 25-Year-Old Man From Odisha Self-Immolates at India Gate, Rushed to Hospital
According to Delhi Police, the man immolated himself at the ceremonial road that runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill to India Gate. A Police Control Room (PCR) was alerted immediately after the incident was reported. The man was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he is currently being treated for burn injuries.
New Delhi, December 18: In a shocking incident, a man from Odisha set himself ablaze in the national capital. The self-immolation incident was reported on Wednesday evening. The person who set himself on fire has been identified as a 25-year-old Kartik Maher. before onlookers could stop him, the man lit himself up near India Gate, a popular tourist destination in the city. According to Delhi Police, the man immolated himself at the ceremonial road that runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill to India Gate. According to a hospital official, the person has suffered 90 percent burn injuries and is unlikely to survive. Efforts are, however, underway to save his life.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Eish Singhal, the person was not related to the ongoing protests over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The reason for his act of self-immolation is yet to be confirmed. The person's brother has told the police that he was mentally unstable. His ill mental health may had compelled the person to set himself ablaze, a police official said.
