New Delhi, October 24: In another manual scavenging mishap, a 32-year-old sanitation worker died due to drowning in a sewer in Jahangirpuri in the national capital earlier this week. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place early on October 21. A case has been registered under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code. Reports inform that the Project Manager, Site Supervisor & Nodal officer of the site of the incident have been arrested today.

According to details by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) A K Lal, the deceased was identified as Dooman Ray, a native of Katihar in Bihar. Soon after the incident was reported, Ray was rushed to the Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where he was declared brought dead.

Earlier in September, five sanitation workers were killed after they inhaled toxic fumes while cleaning a sewer. According to reports, the horrific incident took place in west Delhi's Moti Nagar area. The victims were aged between 22 and 30 years. According to reports, two died on the spot while the others were declared brought dead by the hospital authorities.
