Delhi Reports Highest Single-Day Spike of 7,745 COVID-19 Cases; Coronavirus Tally Reaches 4,38,529, Death Toll Mounts to 6,989

Delhi reported another highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases on Sunday. A total of 7,745 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. New Delhi, November 8: Delhi reported another highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases on Sunday. A total of 7,745 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Delhi's coronavirus tally reached 4,38,529 on November 8. Meanwhile, 77 people also succumbed to the virus since Saturday. The death toll in the national territory mounted to 6,989.

A total of 6,069 recovered on Sunday. According to the health ministry of the union territory, there are currently 41,857 active cases. Till now, 3,89,683 people have recovered from the deadly virus. In the last 24 hours, authorities conducted 50,754 COVID-19 tests. Till now, 50,99,774 samples have been tested for coronavirus in Delhi. According to reports, there are currently 3,878 containment zones in the national capital territory. Coronavirus in India: Live Map.

Notably, Delhi is witnessing the third wave of coronavirus. The sudden spike in cases comes amid the festive season and rising pollution levels. Currently, 7,858 out of 15,904 beds are occupied in the hospitals, 1,020 out of 8,107 beds in the dedicated COVID Care Centres and 327 out of 527 beds in the dedicated Covid Health Centres. Over 24,100 people are in home isolation.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that the national capital is currently passing through a "third wave" of the pandemic and asserted that the cases will "soon come down". The previous highest single-day spike till date in Delhi -- 7,178 cases -- was recorded on Friday.
