Delhi Ranked 6th Fastest Growing and Best Performing Metro City in the World

The Brookings' study Global Metro Monitor 2018 report, found in its study that Delhi's per capita GDP increased by 6.6 per cent between 2014-16.

In a global ranking list of 300 fastest growing and best performing metro areas, India's capital Delhi has found the sixth place. The Brookings' study Global Metro Monitor 2018 report, found in its study that Delhi's per capita GDP increased by 6.6 per cent between 2014-16. The report, which "aims to capture how large metro areas are responding to continued changes in the world economy and, amid concerns about rising place-based disparities,how large metro areas are growing relative to their surrounding nations and regions", found in its samples that Delhi is just behind Beijing in the rankings.

The report in a startling fact said that more than half the world’s population now lives in urban areas, and that 300 largest metropolitan economies in the world account for nearly half of all global output.

The report also said that between 2014 and 2016 metro areas in China and emerging Asia-Pacific experienced the fastest GDP per capita growth in the world. The report also found that Latin American metros experienced the slowest GDP per capita and employment growth. Global Metro Monitor 2018 analyzes the economic dynamics in the world’s 300 largest metropolitan areas, specifically employment and GDP per capita growth.
