New Delhi, March 3: The national capital and its surrounding region woke up to a cold morning on Sunday with partly cloudy sky after witnessing heavy rainfall since the last few days. The minimum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 11.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, the weather office informed. Delhi, Gurugram and several other regions received fresh spell of rain a day after the national capital recorded the coldest day of March in four years at 13 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday said that the chances of rainfall till Monday are likely to extend winter in the national capital for another four to five days. According to a report by IANS, Delhi received 2 mm rainfall till Saturday evening, which brought the maximum temperature down to 19.3 degree Celsius, eight notches below the season's average. On Saturday, rains also lashed parts of the national capital, giving no respite to Delhiites from the chill. The maximum and minimum temperature was recorded at 24.1 degrees Celsius and 13.0 degrees Celsius, respectively. The IMD has said there is a possibility of strong surface winds, light rains or thundershowers and the likelihood of hailstorm and lightning. In 2018, the minimum and maximum temperatures in the national capital had settled at 15 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively in March. In 2017, the minimum and maximum temperature were 17 degrees and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively, while in 2016, they were recorded at 15 degrees and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively.
