Delhi Police Constable Posted at Secretariat 'Commits Suicide'
A report in 2017 pointed out that at least one personnel of the Delhi Police commits suicide each month. In 95 per cent of the cases, the deceased used their service revolver to end their lives.
New Delhi, November 16: A Delhi Police head constable reportedly committed suicide in the early hours of Friday. The deceased was posted at the Delhi Secretariat, TV reports said.
The slain head constable has been identified as Sohanveer. Preliminary investigation has revealed that he shot himself dead with his service revolver. The purported suicide was committed by him at the VIP parking lot of Delhi Secretariat. Delhi: Cop Posted at PTC Shoots Himself Dead.
The constable's body has been sent for post-mortem. The autopsy report will confirm the cause of death, said an official privy to the case, adding that no suicide letter has been recovered so far.
The Delhi Police has long been tackling the menace of depression among its personnel. A report in 2017 pointed out that at least one personnel of the Delhi Police commits suicide each month. In 95 per cent of the cases, the deceased used their service revolver to end their lives.
To de-stress the policemen, the Delhi Police has been organising Sampark Sabha every month to discuss the issues being faced by the workforce.
