Delhi, August 14:  After the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) installed radio frequency identification (RFID) system on August 9, all taxis including app-based cab services Ola and Uber running in the national capital, have been ordered not to charge toll from passengers till September 13. Commuting between Delhi and NCR satellite towns have become easier and will be hassle-free for the next one month as commercial vehicles will not be charged toll tax till September 13.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had taken the decision to suspend toll collection at the toll plazas on the border on August 9. However, there have been few reports of commuters being charged the toll due to lack of clarity regarding the order. The civic body officials said commuters who are being charged for the toll by cab aggregators can file a complaint with the Municipal Corporation, Delhi Government’s transport department or local police and strict action will be taken against them.

According to a report by TOI, the corporation will be carrying out civil work for installation of infrastructure at 13 major entry points. These 13 points will cover 65 toll lanes, which cater to 85% of traffic entering the city. The toll collection from commercial vehicles was stopped by the SDMC after it began work on developing an electronic toll collection system known as Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) at 13 prominent border points.
