New Delhi, June 29: Usually, the government offices, including the Municipal Corporation, remain closed on the fourth Saturday of every month. Since June 30 is the last Saturday of the month and  also the last day to file tax returns, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has cancelled the holidays of the employees who work in the tax collection department. The decision has been taken to facilitate taxpayers in filing their returns. So this Saturday, all zonal offices of the tax department will remain open.

A senior official of NMC said that all property owners are advised to pay their property tax and file the property tax returns by June 30 positively. If they failed to do that, action will be taken against the defaulters as per the legal course. The government may impose a file or an interest on the defaulter, or take over the account and property or even auction the property.

In Puducherry,  the governor of the state Lieutenant Kiran Bedi has decided to publish the list of names of those who have defaulted on property tax to initiate strict action against tax defaulters.

The property tax offices in Delhi-NCR regions will remain open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm for the convenience of the citizens.
