Delhi Metro Update: Entry and Exit Gates Shut at Jaffrabad, Seelampur and 3 Other Stations After Clashes Following Anti-CAA Protests in Jaffrabad
According to a tweet by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the gates of five metro stations including- Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur, Seelampur and Gokulpuri are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations until further notice.
New Delhi, December 17: The entry and exit gates of five metro stations in Delhi have been shut after a clash broke out between police and protesters in Jaffrabad earlier in the day on Tuesday . According to a tweet by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the gates of five metro stations including- Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur, Seelampur and Gokulpuri are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations until further notice. The Delhi Police used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters and used a drone to monitor the situation in Jafrabad area.
The decision to shut these metro stations was taken in the wake of violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in parts of Delhi. On Tuesday, a clash broke out between police and protesters in Jafrabad following which the Delhi Police suspended traffic movement from Seelampur to Jafrabad. "Traffic movement has been closed on 66 feet road from Seelampur to Jafrabad (both carriageways) due to demonstration against the CAA", the Delhi Police said. In the last two days, several metro stations in the national capital were shut in the wake of violence protests. First to get shut was Jamia Millia, the epicentre of Sunday's violence along with services at GTB, Shivaji Stadium, Patel Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Sukhdev Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Jasola Vihar and Shaheen Bagh.
