New Delhi, August 14: The Delhi Metro will close its parking lots on the eve of Independence Day in view of security concerns. The metro authorities on Sunday took the decision to shut parking lots. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a statement said, "Parking facilities will not be available at Delhi Metro stations from 6 a.m. on August 14 (Tuesday) till 2 p.m. on August 15 (Wednesday), in view of the security measures adopted on the occasion of Independence Day.”
It has also instructed all its parking contractors to use this opportunity for cleaning the parking lots in the spirit of the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. The DMRC will also depute its officials to inspect the parking sites for strict compliance. Metro services will run normally.
According to a report published in Live Mint, some entry/exit gates of Lal Quila, ITO, Delhi Gate and Jama Masjid Metro stations will be closed down for security reasons in the morning hours during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation from the Red Fort. Train services between Indraprastha and Mandi House are also likely to remain closed for some time as the Prime Minister’s convoy will pass through Tilak Marg on the morning of August 15.
The Delhi Metro, on Monday, also introduced a six-coach special train, to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day. The train will be "fully wrapped" with the photographs of freedom fighters and icons of India's struggle for freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, B R Ambedkar and former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The train will reportedly run between Samaypur Badli and HUDA City Centre (Yellow Line) for the next two months.
