New Delhi, Sep 19: A man was beaten up mercilessly and forced to consume poison for eloping with a minor girl in Delhi's Dwarka district, the police said on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Hari Om, was found in an unconscious state at an isolated place by a passerby on September 15. He was rushed to DDU hospital where he is recovering.

After gaining consciousness, Hari Om told police that a person along with three others thrashed him and forcibly fed him poison. While investigating the case, cops found that Hari Om had eloped with a 13-year-old girl on September 15. While the police were busy in locating the duo, the girl's father came to know whereabouts of Hari Om. He along with three others took Hari Om to an isolated place and thrashed him. They fed him poison and then left him there to die. A passerby noticed that a person was lying in an unconscious state and informed the police.

"As per the statement of Hari Om, the girl's father and three others took him to an isolated place and mercilessly thrashed him. They also gave him poison and then left him there to die," an official told a news channel. An FIR was registered against the girl's father under IPC section of 308. It was not clear whether Hari Om forced the girl to elope with him.
