New Delhi, July 26: National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) has issued notices to the Centre and Delhi Government over the death of three minor sisters due to starvation in Mandawali area of Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia also termed the incident as “the biggest failure of the system.” Sisodia has asked the Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services to submit details of the officials responsible for keeping records of the people living in the area.

The girls, aged eight, four and two years, were brought to a hospital by their mother and a friend at around 1 pm on Tuesday, but were declared dead on arrival. The postmortem reports showed that their stomachs were empty and therefore, it's a case of gross malnutrition. On Wednesday, the Delhi government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the deaths of three sisters.

According to a report by ANI, the police after recovering pills and medicine bottles are also looking into the poisoning angle. The girls' father is a rickshaw-puller and he is still missing. However, neighbours believed that he had gone in search of work and would return in a couple of days. The Congress has also slammed the Delhi government over the incident.
