Delhi Gurdwaras to Offer Saplings as ‘Prasad’ With a View to Have Over 1 Lakh Trees Planted for Guru Nanak’s 550th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, August 12: The Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has decided to distribute saplings as prasad. The decision was taken to promote tree plantation in schools and colleges to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first guru of Sikhs. The drive was launched by the DSGMC to plant over one lakh trees in all gurudwaras and Sikh educational institutes, reported The Times of India.

President of DSGMC Manjinder Singh Sirsa told TOI, "It is mandatory for all freshers at nine colleges affiliated with Delhi University and IP University, managed by the committee, to plant 10 trees from the current academic session." According to the report, the student will have to submit the status report of trees planted by them. Earlier this year, The central government had also launched a #selfiewithsapling initiative to encourage tree plantation. Meanwhile, on the occasion of the of World Environment Day in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also urged people to plant more saplings for a better tomorrow.
