New Delhi, May 27: Three days after the massive fire tragedy at Surat coaching centre took place, killing 19 students, Delhi government has taken a lesson from it and issued fire safety audit for coaching centres on Monday. The Aam Aadmi Party-led government had ordered to investigate whether fire safety norms are being followed at coaching centres across the city.

According to reports, all the coaching centres operating in high rise buildings in the national capital will have to undergo safety inspection by the Director (Fire Services). During the investigation, if any discrepancy is found, the director of fire services can take immediate action for closing down the operation of coaching institutes operating above the fourth floor in such buildings. Surat: Huge Fire at Coaching Centre; 19 Students Dead, 8 Injured; Watch Horrific Video 

It is to be known that Delhi is considered as a national educational hub among students preparing for medical, engineering and civil examinations. Soon after the Surat incident, the city administration served show-cause notices to 1,123 coaching centres and they have been given three days for complying with fire safety standards.

Earlier too, 9,395 buildings all over Gujarat have been given show cause notice after a preliminary inspection, after Surat incident. All these notices need to reply in three days time. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered an investigation and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed.
