New Delhi, November 30: The Delhi Government for the first time has fixed an upper age limit for admission to kindergarten, nursery and class 1 in around 1,700 private, unaided and recognised schools in Delhi, according to the circular issued by Directorate of Education (DoE) on Tuesday. The admission process for the nursery, KG, class 1 for the academic session 2019-20 will begin on December 15. According to the circular, the minimum age for the nursery, KG, class 1 is set at 3, 4 and 5 years. While, the upper age limit for the nursery, KG, class 1 is 4, 5 and 6 years as on March 31, 2019, respectively. The last date of submitting application forms for nursery class admission for 2019-20 session is January 7. The first list will be announced on February 4. The second list will be out on February 21 and the admission process will be concluded on March 31. As it was fixed earlier, twenty-five per cent seats in pre-school, pre-primary and Class 1 will be reserved for disadvantaged groups/economically weaker sections.
The proposal for an upper-age limit was challenged in Delhi court last year. Through High court allowed the imposition of upper age limit, the DoE had decided to make it applicable only from 2019. To ensure the transparent admission process, the DoE has also set up a grievance redressal and monitoring cells in all districts.
