New Delhi, January 4: To address the parking woes in the national capital, a 'fully-automated' car-parking tower facility was rolled out by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday. The automated car parking which has been set up at Green Park, can accommodate several cars at once, making it easier for commuters as compared to conventional parking lots. The facility, which has been developed SDMC, was inaugurated by Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday. The BJP-led SDMC has claimed that it is the city's 'first' such parking facility.

The facility aims to address the ever-increasing demand for car parking in south Delhi. SDMC commissioner Gyanesh Bharti was quoted in reports saying that the  facility is spread over an area of merely 217 square metres. He stated that the two towers were completed in a record time of 10 months. Bharti added that the facility has four towers – each of 39.50 metres height with 17 levels to accommodate 34 cars. Bharti spoke about the achievements and ongoing major projects the corporation has taken to increase the number of parking sites. He added that the four towers will be provided with 17 levels each to accommodate 102 cars. The SDMC said that the initiative is eco-friendly, allow faster parking and retrieval with lifts, offer customised parking solution, comprehensive fire safety, and be fully safe.
