Delhi, September 30: A day after Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee, which ordered the sealing of all fitness centres including gyms, yoga and meditation, the owners of these centres have decided to protest. The SC order has directed to “shut fitness centres opened in malls and commercials plots owned by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) that have come up after August 12, 2008”. The owners have threatened to approach the court and would protest against the move.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the owners highlight that this move will not only affect their livelihood but will also be affecting PM Modi's 'Fit India Movement'. The move is being termed as 'dictatorial' and is not going down well with the owners. Owners of several of these centres in the city organised a meeting on Sunday and said that they would protest any move by the municipal bodies or DDA to seal their facilities. The reason behind the order is the Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2021 does not allow fitness centres outside of DDA market complexes or shopping malls. Hence the facilities that have opened after that do not have legal sanction. According to the SC order, the panel wanted those fitness centres opened after August 12, 2008, and found violating these rules to be sealed by October 18.

The owners have been complaining that the news has already started affecting their businesses. People have stopped taking memberships and schemes, and are enquiring about the status of the gyms.
