New Delhi, November 11: A car allegedly being driven by a drunk woman in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area hit another vehicle causing the death of a 38-year-old woman. The accident happened around 11.30 pm on Friday. The deceased woman's daughter is also seriously injured as she was in the car at the time of the accident. The police informed that the accused is a 22-year-old woman named Shivani Malik. The accused was allegedly out for a joyride. She was accompanied by three of her friends. The four friends including the accused, after a night out in Connaught Place were off to Gurugram, said police.
The accused has been arrested. The police said that she has been booked under IPC sections 304 and 304 A which involves punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing death by negligence.
The accused studies at Delhi University. She also works at a salon in Delhi, said the police. The girl's father was an inspector with Delhi police. He passed away eight years ago. At the time of accident, two of the friends in the car with the accused, tried to flee the scene, but bystanders caught hold of them.
The victim, Poonam Sardana, her family were returning to their home from Adarsh nagar in North West Delhi. The Mahindra Quanto car had seven others members. Pooja's daughter Chaitanya has lost a vision, and is seriously injured. They were seated behind the driver, said media reports.
