Delhi: Dense Fog Envelopes National Capital, Temperature Dips to 7 Degrees Celsius, Flight And Train Operations Affected

New Delhi, January 22: Delhi was enveloped in a thick blanket of fog on Wednesday morning as the minimum temperature dipped to 7 degree Celsius. Due to dense fog, visibility was reduced to 50 metres in the national capital at 5:30 am, India Meteorological Department said. "Dense to very dense fog very likely to affect flight operations and transportation due to poor visibility," the MeT department tweeted. At least five flights were diverted from Delhi due to bad weather. North India Fog: Railway Services Affected, 25 Delhi-Bound Trains Delayed Due to Low Visibility.

As many as 22 north-bound trains were delayed by two to five hours due to the fog, a Northern Railways spokesperson told news agency ANI. The fog is expected to disperse later in the day and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 17 degree Celsius, according to weather forecast agencies. Relative humidity was 98 percent at 8:00 am. Visuals from Sarita Vihar, Barapullah flyover and India Gate showed a thick blanket of fog covering roads with vehicles running on a slow pace.

Dense Fog in Delhi:

According to weather forecast agency Skymet, pollution level will improve slightly. In Delhi and the National Capital Region (NRC), temperatures will remain below normal. On Tuesday, 25 Delhi-bound trains were delayed by 1 to 6 hours due to fog in several parts of northern India.

According to Northern Railway officials, Chennai-Hazrat Nizamuddin Duranto Express was delayed by 6 hours, followed by Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express which was running behind schedule by 4 hours and 30 minutes. On Monday, 14 Delhi bound trains were delayed due to severe fog in several parts of northern India.
