Delhi, July 22: In a tragic incident, a 42-year-old contractual doctor, who was working with Delhi government's National Health Mission (NHM) died due to coronavirus. Dr Javed Ali has been on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19 since March.
According to an Indian Express report, Dr Ali tested positive for coronavirus on June 24 and was hospitalised for treatment over the next three weeks. The doctor died at 8.40 am on Monday at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. For the last 10 days, he was on ventilator support. His family further informed that the doctor was not suffering from any co-morbidities. Dr Ali is survived by his wife Dr Heena, and their two children, aged 6 and 12. According to Dr Heena, as quoted in The Indian Express, “He was a dedicated doctor who did not take a single day off since March and was on Covid-19 duty throughout. He even worked on Eid.”
Dr Heena has demanded compensation because being a contractual employee, his medical expenses were not covered and Rs 6 lakh was spent from their own pocket. The NHM Doctors' Welfare Association has also written to Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain about this.
