Delhi Chief Secretary Assault Case: Police, AAP Trade Charges Against Each Other, Court Reserves Order For 2 PM Today

New Delhi, August 25: The Patiala House Court in Delhi is set to pronounce its verdict on whether chargesheet should be made public or not in the alleged assault case of Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash on Saturday. During the final arguments in the case today, the Delhi Police accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of abusing them while the AAP said Delhi Police was trying to make it a media trial.

"AAP leaders are making derogatory remarks on Delhi police. They are maligning our image & also trying to influence court proceedings," Delhi Police said in court today.

"This is not a simple matter. Chief Secretary is the complainant and Chief Minister is accused. Delhi Police is trying to make this a media trial," the counsel for AAP said.

The AAP MLAs had moved Patiala House Court seeking to restrain Delhi Police from sharing contents or details of the chargesheet with the media. The court had issued a notice to Delhi Police and also fixed August 25 as the next date of hearing.

The Delhi Police had earlier this month filed a chargesheet against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and 11 other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for allegedly assaulting Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February.

The chargesheet, filed in the Patiala House Court on the basis of investigation conducted on the complaint of Prakash, also names Amanatullah Khan, Prakash Jarwal, Nitin Tyagi, Rituraj Govind, Sanjeev Jha, Ajay Dutt, Rajesh Rishi, Rajesh Gupta, Madan Lal, Parveen Kumar and Dinesh Mohania.
