New Delhi, January 25: Hours after the collapse of under construction building in Bhajanpura on Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the site and sought the permission from the Election Commission to provide Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to kin of victims. As per the reports, three students and a teacher succumbed to injuries, while 13 others were admitted in hospital.
Speaking with the media on Saturday, he said, "What has happened is very upsetting. The construction was going on illegally. We'll give orders to investigate how MCD allowed it. We'll request EC to allow us to provide Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to kin of victims." The Delhi CM also said that whoever is responsible will be punished. It is to be be known that since the model code of conduct is in place due to the upcoming Assembly elections, incumbent Chief Minister can not announce any compensation to anyone on his own. This is why he has asked for election commission's permission to provide compensation to victim's kin.
Earlier, Lt Governor Anil Baijal directed all concerned to provide all possible support for the speedy recovery of the injured. Expressing his condolences, he said, "Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic deaths including those of innocent children during the building collapse in Bhajanpura, East Delhi. May God give strength to their family and loved ones to deal with this tragedy." He too have directed the concerned authorities to take action against the guilty.
Apart from Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra visits Bhajanpura building collapse site in Delhi. Both of them asked the government to take stringent action against the guilty people. Meanwhile Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this case.
