Delhi Autorickshaw Drivers Get Relief: Kejriwal Government Waives Fitness Test Fee, Slashes Other Charges And Penalties Imposed on Auto Drivers

The Delhi government on Tuesday waived off the vehicle's fitness test fee and reduced other charges including penalties, in a move that could benefit several auto drivers in the city. The Kejriwal government waived off Rs 600 fitness fees charged from auto-rickshaw. The new order will come into effect on September 1.

New Delhi, August 16: The Delhi government on Tuesday waived off the vehicle's fitness test fee and reduced other charges including penalties, in a move that could benefit several auto drivers in the city. The Kejriwal government waived off Rs 600 fitness fees charged from auto-rickshaw drivers. The Fitness Penalty for late fees and Registration or Re-registration fees has been reduced from Rs 1000 per day to Rs 300 per day.

The GPS tracking charges presently being charged at the rate of Rs 100 per month along with GST and SIM charges have also been fully waived. The transport department will now bear these charges. Some of the other fees that have been reduced are- late fee penalty on fitness test, which is presently Rs 1,000 along with Rs 50 per day, has now be decreased to Rs 300 and Rs 20 per day.

The fee for a duplicate registration certificate and ownership transfer will now be Rs 150, as compared to Rs 500, charged earlier. The penalty amount of Rs 500 per month has been reduced to Rs 100 per month. The new order will come into effect on September 1.

A week back, the Delhi government had announced the discontinuance of the practice of road try test after re-calibration of auto fare meters. The Kejriwal government has also decided to issue an advisory to the manufacturers and dealers of the auto-rickshaw fare meters that they cannot charge more than Rs 400 plus applicable GST for software up-gradation.
