New Delhi, March 8: The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday announced to raise fares of auto-rickshaws in the national capital. Following the revision in rates of auto-rickshaws, Delhites will have to pay Rs 9.5 per kilometre instead of the existing Rs 8 per kilometre. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot announced the decision.

The Delhi Cabinet has approved revised fares of auto-rickshaws from existing Rs 8 per kilometre to Rs 9.5 per kilometre, Gehlot announced. Under the new auto tariff arrangement, the base fare will Rs 25 for the first 1.5 kilometres. At present, auto-rickshaw drivers charge Rs 25 for the first 2 kilometres. The Delhi Cabinet also raised the waiting charge from 50 paise per minute to 75 paise per minute.

The waiting charges will be applicable if the auto-rickshaw is stationary or stuck in traffic or moving extremely slow, that is, at a speed less than 6kmph. Earlier, the waiting charges were applicable only in the case of a minimum of 15-minute stay. There was no change in luggage charges and night charges. The Aam Aadmi Party-led government did not announce the date from which the new rates come into effect.
