New Delhi, August 24: Travellers from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will soon be greeted with a big development. The mustard yellow carpet that spreads across the terminal 3 will be replaced with a hard flooring soon. Many passengers had expressed the discomfort of lugging away their trolley bags on the carpet. A passenger, Suyash Gupta recently tweeted about the dirty rug flooring and his tweet got a response from the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) saying it will be removed.
The passenger tweeted to the junior minister of civil aviation Jayant Sinha about the discomfort on August 18. He mentioned that T3 of Delhi Airport needs an urgent upgrade, also mentioning about the stinky smell of the carpets. Since then Sinha has asked DIAL to follow up. The tweet was noticed and replied saying the phase-wise work to replace the carpet flooring will be undertaken.
Take a look at the passenger Suyash Gupta's complaint about the carpet flooring:
@jayantsinha @DelhiAirport #T3 at Delhi needs massive makeover. Almost all passengers want the dirty rugs to go. Please, let us not fall prey to a sunk investment fallacy. It is very inconvenient and now, stinkingly smelly also, to walk to the boarding gates.

Most good, busy airports across the world use hard flooring, as much as possible. Easy for passengers, easy for luggage, easy to clean and maintain. T3 @DelhiAirport needs an urgent upgradation. More intuitive signages and #FreeFromRUGs PLEASE!! @jayantsinha

Here is the reply of Delhi Airport:
Hi Suyash,
Thank you for the feedback. We have initiated the design and implementation process for the replacement of carpet with hard flooring in the passenger movement area along the piers in a phased manner.

The work for putting up a hard flooring will likely start before the end of October. A spokesperson was quoted to TOI, "We have chosen a solution which is designed for heavy passenger loads, as observed in airports. Post completion, this will enhance the overall passenger experience, especially while dragging strollers in between the travellators."
The current mustard coloured carpet was installed in the year 2010. At that time the quality and vibrancy were appreciated but over the years, it has become a struggle to take the wheeling bags on the carpeted area. It is now about time the struggle for travellers end.
