Delhi Air Quality Improves to 'Satisfactory' Level After Winter Rains

The air quality of Delhi improved further to “satisfactory” category on Friday. Air Quality Index (AQI) data as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in the morning, major pollutant PM 2.5 at 83 at Anand Vihar area of the national capital.

New Delhi, November 29: The air quality of Delhi improved further to “satisfactory” category on Friday. Air Quality Index (AQI) data as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), major pollutant PM 2.5 at 83 was recorded at Anand Vihar area of the national capital. Similarly, the AQI in the area around Lodhi road was at 56. Meanwhile. the air quality improved considerably after heavy rains lashed parts the national capital and its surrounding areas on Wednesday. The temperature in Delhi-NCR and other northern states of the country dipped due to winter rains.

On Thursday, the AQI in Delhi was in “moderate quality”. Major pollutant PM 2.5 was at 114 in the "moderate" category in Lodhi Road area. The AQI at ITO and Anand Vihar was at 149 and 184 respectively.

The air quality in Delhi dipped to “very poor” category during the Diwali season. Every year during this season, the stubble burning incidents in the states of Punjab and Haryana, and bursting of crackers are the main reasons for the alarming spike in pollution in Delhi-NCR.

Earlier this month, the apex court had pulled up the Centre and state governments for their inability to curb stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana and bring air pollution in Delhi under control. It had asked the governments if they feel ashamed that people are no longer safe even in their houses.
