Delhi Air Pollution: Odd-Even Rule to End Today as Air Quality in Most Areas Remain in 'Severe' Zone

Schools were declared shut for Thursday and Friday on account of the increase in pollution in the air. Several children wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to take measures to ensure clean air for them.

New Delhi, November 15: The air quality in Delhi continues to hover in the 'severe' zone, showing so signs of any improvement. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, the major pollutants PM 2.5 & PM 10, are both at 500 (severe category), in Lodhi Road area. Thick haze envelops the sky, making it very difficult for people to live in the middle of toxic air.

Today is the last day of the odd-even rule which was implemented by the Kejriwal government to curb the rising pollution. There has been no extension of this scheme till now and the current situation in Delhi continues to be a health emergency. The stubble burning in the neighbouring states also increased, further contributing to the worsening situation in the national capital. Experts have predicted a similar situation to prevail on Friday as well due to the influence of a western disturbance, and a dip in the wind speed.
