Delhi, November 9:The air quality in the national capital continues to deteriorate as several areas slipped in the 'severe' category on Monday. The AQI was at 472 in the 'severe' category at ITO due to heavy smog.

Delhi's Akshardham Temple was also engulfed in a thick layer of smog on Monday morning. Most of the monitoring stations in the capital showed air pollution levels falling in the severe category. The air quality of several areas in Delhi drops to 'severe' category: 

Delhi, on the other hand, recorded its biggest single-day jump of 7,745 coronavirus cases on Sunday, with the positivity rate increasing to 15.26 per cent amid the festive season and rising pollution.

Ahead of Diwali, the Delhi government had on Thursday decided to ban firecrackers, including green crackers, in the city till November 30 to combat pollution amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the city. The Delhi government is expected to issue a set of guidelines for implementing its order today. A standard operating procedure to implement the ban on firecrackers will be issued ahead of Diwali festivities. As per reports, the government is likely to impose a fine of Rs 1 lakh on violators.
