Delhi Air Pollution: AQI in 'Unhealthy' Category Around India Gate, CM Arvind Kejriwal Urges on the Need to Redesign Roads to Ease Traffic

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, the major pollutants PM 2.5 at 177 and PM 10 at 122 are in 'Unhealthy' category, in the area around Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and India Gate. The pollution level in the city has been deteriorating after Dussehra and with the start of the stubble burning season in the neighbouring states.

New Delhi, October 17:  The pollution level in the city has been deteriorating after Dussehra and with the start of the stubble burning season in the neighbouring states.  According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, the major pollutants PM 2.5 at 177 and PM 10 at 122 are in 'Unhealthy' category, in the area around Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and India Gate.

According to reports, Delhi suffered the season's first 'very poor' quality air on Wednesday. Most of the 37 air quality monitoring stations in Delhi recorded 'very poor' air quality. According to experts, from the fourth week of October, the air quality will worsen as the temperature starts to cool. Days after announcing the third odd-even exercise, CM Arvind Kejriwal has urged the neighbouring states to reduce pollution. On Wednesday, Kejriwal said, "The traffic situation in Delhi can be improved. Roads in Delhi are broader than some Western countries, but in Delhi, 4-lane road converges into a 3-lane road at some distance and further expands into a six-lane road, this is where the problem lies."

He further added, "This is not a good design. There is a need to redesign the roads. The biggest problem in Delhi is the multiplicity of agencies."
