New Delhi, December 25: The air in Delhi has once again turned toxic as the major pollutants PM 2.5 & PM 10 were at 244 and 231 respectively, both falling in the 'Poor' category in Lodhi Road area, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data. A cold wave has swept across Northern India and on account of it, Directorate School Education, Government of Haryana has ordered all private and public schools in the state to remain closed on Thursday, December 26.

Temperature is Delhi slipped to 6 degrees on Thursday morning accompanied by dense fog. Reportedly, the mercury is expected to drop further in the next few days. The reason behind the poor air quality can be attributed to the cold weather, high humidity and low wind speed. The AQI was recorded in the "very poor" category (367) on Wednesday morning. An AQI between 0-50 is considered "good", 51-100 "satisfactory", 101-200 "moderate", 201-300 "poor", 301-400 "very poor" and 401-500 "severe". An AQI above 500 falls in the "severe-plus" category.
