Delhi Air Pollution: Air Quality Deteriorates Again, Expected to Turn Severe Tomorrow Due to Dip in Temperature & Calm Winds
SAFAR predicted that AQI is likely to deteriorate to the higher end of a very poor category on Thursday and predicted that it might touch severe levels in some areas on Friday.
New Delhi, December 5: The air quality deteriorated again on Thursday and is expected to further worsen in some parts of the city by Friday due to falling temperatures and calm winds. According to an Air Quality Index (AQI), the major pollutants PM 2.5 & PM 10 were at 234 & 229 respectively, both in the 'Poor' category, in the Lodhi Road area.
The AQI in Ghaziabad was at 406 which was in the 'severe' category, in Vasundhara. In the majority of the areas, the AQI breached the 400-mark level. According to reports, SAFAR predicted that AQI is likely to deteriorate to the higher end of a very poor category on Thursday and predicted that it might touch severe levels in some areas on Friday. There seems to be no respite for people in the city as they are back to battling the toxic air after a brief respite due to rains. The air quality had worsened after Dussehra and with the start of the stubble burning season. The Supreme Court had recently rebuked the neighbouring states over their incapability in handling the stubble burning issue.
